Things to do when putting out an 8th place team – Riot…Check
Alright, the title of this will give away my full intentions on this rant. First off, I’d like to say that I’m not a Montreal fan at all. But with my team out of the playoffs (always next year, Leafs) I’ve been keeping up with all the other playoff matchups along the way. Like most people in Canada, I was really looking forward to the Boston/Montreal game last night as Boston really made the series interesting.
This morning, I get a message from one of my buddies in Montreal. Supposedly after the game, a riot ensued. A couple of cars were set on fire and a bunch of people were arrested.

Now call me stupid, but this hardly seems the event to throw down your mad riot skills. A first round 1 vs. 8 matchup should have only gone 4 games, so they were actually saving face by winning the 7th game. But it’s the first round?!?!? Are these fans doing this because they know they’ll be out next round? Should they be saving it for the finals?
So, when Georges St. Pierre wins his title, did the people flood the streets of Montreal to riot? Not quite. More worthy rioting for this than a 1st round series win against Boston? Definitely. Priorities mixed up? For sure!
That being said and while I’m still on the riot topic, I remember having a funny conversation with a waiter once while a Leafs game was playing. He gave me the usual sentiment (Leafs suck) while watching the TV as they were playing. As he came back, he told me of a time when he lived in TO and everything was Leaf crazy all around him. I was then informed on why he thought the Leafs would never win the Cup…because the city of Toronto is scared of the massive riot that would ensue (it was part of MLSE’s plan with the city to make sure this would never happen and cost the city millions of dollars). Definitely a crazy “conspiracy theory” but it just made me wonder just how much damage would go on if this did happen.
